Pregnancy after loss (PAL)
Overview: This resource breaks down some of the emotional aspects of pregnancy after loss. It is relevant for clinicians, parents and supporters alike. People who are pregnant after loss have already had at least one experience where a positive pregnancy test has not resulted in them bringing home a living baby, or where the child who was born from that pregnancy has subsequently died. Often in future pregnancies this can mean that people have lost that sense of pure joy and innocence. Knowing that things can go wrong is very different to having lived experience of a baby dying.
Evidence: This resource has been created based on my own experience, I was pregnant after my infant son Lenny died with my second son, Bhai – we then lost Bhai at nearly 19 weeks. I was then pregnant after two very different losses with my daughter Raya who we brought home. It is also based on many other bereaved mums who have generously shared their experiences with me.
