“we haven’t walked in your shoes but we have all shopped in the same (awful) shoe shop.”

Lenny’s Legacy was founded by us, Roy and Mim. We are twice bereaved parents to our infant son Lenny and Bhai who died during pregnancy. We believe we are all experts in our own experience – so you are the expert in your loss. Our ethos is to listen and respect individual stories – your story will be different to ours. To borrow a phrase from our friend, “we haven’t walked in your shoes but we have all shopped in the same (awful) shoe shop.”

Mim is a registered Social Worker and holds an MSc in Psychology, she practices in line with the values and ethics of these professions. She has over a decade of experience as a senior consultant in policy research. Mim’s career has centred around supporting various groups of people at vulnerable points in their lives whether this is directly working with people or in developing evidence-based policies to support them. Mim facilitates the online and in-person support groups, organises our events and is responsible for the general running of the charity.

Roy taught Physics at a secondary school for over a decade, he uses this expertise in pedagogy to take a lead on the training for Lenny’s Legacy. He offers a dad’s perspective at all our groups, events and writes blogs reflecting this. Roy is passionate about the outdoors and organises many of outdoor events. Like many bereaved parents Roy had a career change after Lenny and Bhai died, he now runs a building and landscaping company.

Though our professional backgrounds are helpful and relevant most of our expertise for running the charity comes from our lived experience of grief and listening carefully to others. We continue to learn from the hundreds of bereaved parents who generously share their stories of their precious children with us. We firmly believe that loss happens in the context of peoples’ lives and so each person’s grief will be uniquely experienced – we do however think that bereaved parents often have some commonality of feelings. This is lonely, but you are not alone.
