Training for Employees, Healthcare and Other Professionals
All of our training has been peer reviewed by Obstetricians, midwives and GPs.
We offer high-quality, face to face training for healthcare professionals, lawyers, employers and other people who come into contact with bereaved parents in a professional capacity.
Our training is unique as it combines personal stories and practical tools. We utilise our professional backgrounds in Psychology, Social Work, research and education to develop evidence-informed practical frameworks and tools. We use our story, stories from other bereaved parents and the practice wisdom of healthcare professionals to apply these tools in practice.
All of our training has been peer reviewed by Obstetricians, midwives and GPs. All of our training draw upon principles of trauma-informed practice including safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment and cultural consideration.

When a baby dies – communicating in the immediate aftermath – all frontline clinicians – 1.5 hours
This training session is aimed at, doctors, midwives, sonographers and nurses. The training session will equip delegates to;
- Have an appreciation of the importance of effective, empathetic communication with bereaved parents;
- Understand how to communicate effectively and with empathy to bereaved parents
This training focusses on the immediate aftermath when a baby dies, we know from bereaved parents that how they are communicated with at this time stays with them forever. We present our unique, evidence-informed framework for communicating with parents in these tragic circumstances.
Communicating with bereaved parents – For General Practitioners and GP surgery staff – 1.5 hours
The training session is aimed at GPs and other community healthcare professionals. The training session will:
- Ensure delegates feel confident and competent communicating effectively and with empathy with bereaved parents;
- Understand some of the wider impacts of grief and specifically of losing a child and to understand local services.
This training session uses multiple example scenarios and explains the elements which make up a supportive consultation. We present an evidence-informed framework to help structure conversations with bereaved parents.
Grief in the workplace – a trauma-informed approach – for all employers
This training session focusses on supporting employees who have experienced child bereavement, the principles of responding to grief and trauma are applicable to many other circumstances. Delegates will:
- Understand how grief, trauma and traumatic grief may impact someone in their job role;
- Feel more confident to support staff who experience child bereavement or any kind of grief or trauma in their job role.
This training takes a trauma-informed approach, it recognises the widespread psychological and physical impacts of trauma and structures working practices to ensure that employees do not face barriers due to their trauma and are not re-traumatised.
Communicating with bereaved parents – for lawyers
This training session is designed for lawyers who come into contact with bereaved parents and particularly those who represent bereaved parents. Delegates will:
- Have a clear understanding of the lived experience of traumatic grief in the context of child bereavement and how this impacts an individual’s communication and decision making skills;
- We present a framework for communicating with bereaved parents in an effectively and empathetically.
This training is a collaborative workshop with lawyers, it recognises that often lawyers have to revisit intensely traumatic situations with bereaved parents and explores how this can be done taking a trauma-informed approach.
Understanding sibling grief – for teachers and child care professionals
This training is designed for professionals working with children of all ages. This session can be tailored to suit the specific age group of children you work with. Delegates will:
- Understand how children experience and express grief;
- Understand how to communicate with grieving children and how to recognise if they need further support and the support available.
This training uses research evidence, psychological and developmental theories and example scenarios to support professionals to recognise and respond effectively to children who have lost siblings.
