We are so sorry you find yourselves here. We are so sorry that your baby died. We have written these resources based on our own experience of losing our two sons Lenny and Bhai at 40 weeks and 18 weeks respectively. We are not medical professionals or lawyers. We have used our skills from our professional backgrounds – Roy is a teacher, Mim is a registered social worker and has worked in research and policy since 2015. However, our real expertise is in our own experience. We have tried to create resources which we would have found useful – please know that you are not alone.
ViewWe are so sorry that your friend or relative has experienced the death of a baby. We appreciate the challenges of supporting grieving parents whilst also dealing with your own grief. Please know that whilst you can’t make anything ‘better’ for bereaved parents – we hope that within these pages you may find some relatively simple ways of making their journey gentler. Thank you for finding these pages and for doing what you can to support bereaved parents in the worst time of their lives. Small gestures can bring light into the darkest of days for parents.
ViewOverview: This resource breaks down some of the emotional aspects of pregnancy after loss. It is relevant for clinicians, parents and supporters alike. People who are pregnant after loss have already had at least one experience where a positive pregnancy test has not resulted in them bringing home a living baby, or where the child who was born from that pregnancy has subsequently died. Often in future pregnancies this can mean that people have lost that sense of pure joy and innocence. Knowing that things can go wrong is very different to having lived experience of a baby dying.
Evidence: This resource has been created based on my own experience, I was pregnant after my infant son Lenny died with my second son, Bhai – we then lost Bhai at nearly 19 weeks. I was then pregnant after two very different losses with my daughter Raya who we brought home. It is also based on many other bereaved mums who have generously shared their experiences with me.
