Grief Coaching

About

A little boy called Ted inspired and enabled this service so it is known within our charity as, ‘Ted Talks.’ Grief coaching is highly structured, strengths-based support which helps you to move forward in your grief with your precious child. Coaching supports you to understand what is happening in your mind and body so you can develop tools to cope. We follow a recognised and highly regarded method (STILL), and you can choose whether to work 1:1 or as a couple.

When and where

These will be 6 x 1 hour-long sessions at a mutually convenient time (Mondays and Wednesdays between 8.30-6pm, Fridays 12-6pm). These sessions can be delivered as ‘walk and talk’ sessions in local parks or in private office space. We can be flexible with times and locations to be agreed within the initial phone call.

Who is it for?

Suitable for bereaved parents (both mums and dads) whose child has died at any age up to 18 and includes during pregnancy. We recommend starting this course at least 6 months post loss, with no upper limit on the time since loss.

What to expect

Grief coaching isn’t therapy and it doesn’t try to be. This is for you if you want to speak to someone who truly understands loss, to feel like you are carrying your grief rather than being controlled by it and if you want to think about your child with a smile. Sessions are highly structured and support you to develop a better understanding of grief, nervous system responses and what works well for you as an individual. Whilst you are very welcome and encouraged to speak about your precious child, you will not be asked to recount traumatic details of your loss or reveal anything you are not comfortable with.

The Coach

All grief coaching is currently delivered by me, Mim (charity founder). I am a certified grief coach (STILL method). I have a professional background in Social Work (MA) so I am highly experienced in working with people at vulnerable times in their lives, this now includes supporting hundreds of bereaved parents. I also hold a Masters in Psychology which gives me a solid understanding of grief and nervous system responses. As a bereaved mum myself, I will never claim to know exactly how you feel but you can be assured that I have a level of understanding that most people don’t. You can expect warmth, respect, and zero judgment. I will walk alongside you through the hard stuff and we might also have some smiles or even laughter along the way. I am not here to ‘fix’ your grief, I am here to support you to live alongside it - finding light where we can.
