Our Story
On 18th December 2021 our world changed forever. Our beautiful firstborn, Lenny died just 27 minutes after he was born. His death was unexpected and sudden after a healthy, full term pregnancy and straightforward birth. Lenny had blonde curly hair, long legs, and looked just like his dad.
Less than a year later, we lost our second son, Bhai (meaning brother) at 18 weeks gestation, again unexpectedly but in entirely different and unrelated circumstances. We were fortunate enough to bring home Lenny and Bhai's little sister, Raya in 2023. We are parents to 3 children, but only one of them is alive.
We struggled to find support which spoke to both of these devastating experiences of loss. We wanted to connect with others who could understand our pain, find activities and practices which were supportive in our grief and help our support network to be there for us in ways which were useful. So - we founded Lenny's Legacy to create the support we wished we had had.
Our Vision
Our vision is to provide bereaved parents in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire with holistic and timely support.
Our Mission
To support the wellbeing of parents as they navigate the devastating grief of losing a child in any circumstances.
Our Core Strategies
- Build a community of peer support - through our in-person and online events and activities. We know bringing people together who have similar experiences in supportive environments can be really powerful.
- Provide specialist support for specific aspects of grief and loss. We understand the need for tailored, individualised support delivered by qualified people who understand.
- Support knowledge sharing and skill development by creating and sharing resources and providing training. We provide a 'one stop shop' for information for you and those in your support network to support you.
- Increase awareness of baby and child loss and its impacts and advocate on behalf of bereaved parents with key decision makers. The death of a baby or child remains a taboo subject, this is unhelpful because it can leave devastated parents suffering in silence without support.
Our Values
Everything we do is underpinned by our values.
- Compassion: We will hold space for your grief with deep empathy, kindness and absolutely no judgement.
- Connection: Whether online or in-person, we want to ensure no parent faces the devastating loss of a child alone.
- Integrity: We will honour every family's trust by being honest, transparent and reliable.
- Inclusivity: We will support every parent irrespective of their background, culture, or type of loss.
- Respect: We value each person's unique grief experience and respect and honour the memory of each and every child.
