About
A 6 week live, online, postpartum Pilates course which gently progresses each week, specifically designed for bereaved mums. An hour of Physiotherapist-led Pilates followed by half an hour of optional wellbeing support. No experience necessary and no need to bring anything. These are small friendly groups with people who have had similar experiences to you.
When and where?
These take place online via Googlemeet so you can do the course in the comfort of your own home. Classes take place on Fridays 10am-11.30am in 6 week blocks. These are live sessions so you need to be available to attend all sessions at this time.
Why do we deliver the course?
We believe that mums who experience the death of a baby need and deserve dedicated postpartum care. We understand firsthand the complexity of dealing with a postpartum body without your baby physically here. We also appreciate the need for a dedicated space sensitive to loss. We know that this support is not currently available on the NHS but is vital to ensuring women can return to their usual activities and to exercise which can be hugely supportive in grief.
Who is it for?
This course focuses on physical postpartum recovery and is designed for mums who have given birth within the last year and experienced a late second trimester loss, TFMR, stillbirth and early infant death. If this does not describe your experience you can still access all of our resources and other support. If your loss was at an earlier gestation, again you can access all our support and know that your loss is just as valid and your baby as precious, however, you may find more benefit from the Tommy’s Wellbeing After Miscarriage Course.
Who delivers the course?
The Pilates course has been designed and is delivered by expert Physiotherapist, Jenni Calcraft. Jenni is a specialist pelvic health physio and has been supporting bereaved mums for a number of years. Mim Prestwich (charity founder) leads the wellbeing session, she herself a bereaved mum and has completed specialist grief training in addition to her other relevant qualifications and experience.
How will it help me?
Mums tell us they get physical and psychological benefits from completing the course. They feel stronger, more confident in their body and able to resume exercise. They feel better informed, less isolated and more able to handle their grief. Many of the mums who do our course keep in touch long after the course ends.
